DEHYDRATION

What is it?

Dehydrated skin is skin lacking water. It is not permanent.

How can it present?

Tight, itchy, dry, dull looking. Facial lines might be more prominent and exaggerated. Skin will look scaly, maybe inflamed. Loss of elasticity. Dehydrated skin despite feeling dry can still present with excess oil (shine) on the skin accompanied by flaking. This indicates the lack of water, not oil. If we are experiencing Trans Epidermal Water Loss, the skin responds by producing more oil.

What can I do?

Gentle cleansers, a milk or cream cleanser is ideal to balance the skin’s pH. Moisturisers and serums that are humectants (working to attract and bind moisture to the skin). Products that contain hyaluronic acid, glycerine, ceramides, essential fatty acids…. Also, do not wash the skin with hot water.
