AGEING

What is it?

Ageing is a natural process in life. If we are breathing, we are living and if we are living, we are ageing.

Ageing of the skin is inevitable and as we dance through the decades of life, the skin will change with it.  Broken down into four types, we age intrinsically, extrinsically, behaviourally and hormonally.

How can it present?

Often characterised by loss of laxity, elasticity, collagen and wrinkling of the skin, as the skin matures, we often see changes in texture and tone, loss of fat and the skin can take longer to heal if it suffers any trauma. Skin becomes thinner and more translucent.

What can I do?

We cannot expect to be able to stop the human ageing process, because it lies at the core of our genetic makeup. We can, however, adopt a lifestyle that can slow down or reverse the signs, but this is often subjective. Reducing stress, drinking plenty of water, wearing SPF, not smoking or vaping, eating a balanced diet, physically moving your body, limiting alcohol and adopting practices of self-care and rest. Taking care of our mental, physical and cognitive health are all factors we need to consider.

Having a facial at least once a season can brighten and reset the skin enabling your homecare to penetrate better. Use less products but ones that include good quality ingredients that encourage cell metabolism, strengthen elastin fibres and collagen, protect our barrier, hydrate, regulate oil and smooth the skin. Wearing SPF 30/50 is non-negotiable.
